  BRUNCH

The wealth of large hotel dining rooms in Hawai'i mean there are breakfast buffets and brunches everywhere. We've picked three favorites, but there are many other choices. (Prices quoted are as of fall 2005; subject to change.)

The Banyan Veranda

Brunch on The Banyan Veranda at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider is an occasion, with a lovely setting and a luxurious range of well-prepared foods.

Period architecture, strolling musicians, pleasant views and a groaning board make this wide, L-shaped porch a local favorite for special-occasion brunches. Though this is one of the most expensive brunch buffets in town ($42.50), it's also one of the most popular because it's so lavish. Food displays take up half of a very large indoor room: made-to- order waffles and omelets, carving station with two roast items each week, sushi and soba, soups and salads, cheese and fruits, dim sum, at least a half-dozen hot dishes, crepes, pastries and desserts.
