  BRUNCH

The wealth of large hotel dining rooms in Hawai'i mean there are breakfast buffets and brunches everywhere. We've picked three favorites, but there are many other choices. (Prices quoted are as of fall 2005; subject to change.)

Orchids, Halekulani Hotel

If you're having Sunday brunch at Orchids, you know something is up: Mother's Day or another holiday, important visitors from out of town, a special anniversary or other celebration. The offerings ($39.50) are spread over a maze of tables in the bright, open-air, orchid-draped restaurant. Everything is of the finest quality, from the fresh fruit to the meats in the hot stations to the housemade chocolates and pastries. And the scenery is superb: a view of Diamond Head, strollers on the beach walk, surfers, sun and sea.

Halekulani, 2199 Kalia Road. 923-2311. Sunday brunch: 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. VS, MC, AX, DC, JCB. Checks accepted. Brunch: $$$.
