2005 'ILIMA AWARD WINNER - BEST FILIPINO RESTAURANT

In the 10th anniversary year of the 'Ilima Awards, these are the restaurants that turned the heads of our readers and our in-house food experts.

BEST FILIPINO RESTAURANT
Elena's Home of Finest Filipino Foods

A repeat 'Ilima Award winner, Elena's manages to dance nimbly along the line between authenticity — you'll see plenty of folks of Filipino ancestry eating there — and welcoming those who may not know much about Filipino food. Their signature is the pork adobo omelet (an egg pancake redolent of garlic wrapped around tangy pork adobo — always a popular feature at the 'Ilima Awards event). Other standards: pancit noodles, shrimp sarciado (a rich tomato-based stew), lejon (roast suckling pig) and sari sari (a soupy pork-vegetable dish) are also recommended.

94-866 Molo'alo St., Waipahu. 676-8005. 6 a.m.-8 p.m. daily. No reservations. VS, MC No checks. $.
