2005 'ILIMA AWARD WINNER - BEST FRENCH RESTAURANT

In the 10th anniversary year of the 'Ilima Awards, these are the restaurants that turned the heads of our readers and our in-house food experts.

BEST FRENCH RESTAURANT
La Mer

At La Mer in the Halekulani, chef Yves Garnier brings to customers the essence of France with a touch of Hawaiian sunlight. The wood-toned restaurant, with its view of Diamond Head, requires gentlemen to wear jackets.
La Mer

There is no more gracious or serene room in the Islands than this wood-toned second-floor space with its vaguely Asian motif and picture postcard view of Diamond Head. Chef Yves Garnier's "Cuisine Soleil" is the essence of France with a touch of Hawaiian sunlight (and more than a touch of Island-grown ingredients and locally caught seafood). Dine at a leisurely place, taking time to enjoy the music drifting up from House Without a Key, savor the bouillabaisse or Kobe-style beef three ways, and sip wines selected for you by knowledgeable wine manager Randy Ching. Dress code: Men must wear jackets or long-sleeved, collared shirts.
