2005 'ILIMA AWARD WINNER - BEST KOREAN RESTAURANT

In the 10th anniversary year of the 'Ilima Awards, these are the restaurants that turned the heads of our readers and our in-house food experts.

BEST KOREAN RESTAURANT
Sorabol

Sorabol personifies the mystery that is Korea for most Americans. The menu is immense, the English translations minimal (often fractured, sometimes confusing and occasionally amusing) and it's really three restaurants in one — a sushi bar, a yakiniku (grill it yourself) and a restaurant serving Korean standards. Still, if you're willing to get beyond bi bim bap and kal bi, you can definitely do it here: Ask questions. Persevere. And allow yourself to brazenly stare at others' plates. We recommend the sizzling stone casserole rice dishes and the pork belly bulgogi. The yakiniku grills are gas; the server will get your grilling started — you decide when the food is done.
