2005 'ILIMA AWARD WINNER - BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT

In the 10th anniversary year of the 'Ilima Awards, these are the restaurants that turned the heads of our readers and our in-house food experts.

BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT
Compadres Bar & Grill

If you're looking for cervezas, margaritas and tequila (menu boasts "way too many to list"), you'll find them at Compadres, where the drinks are cold, the portions are large and there's always a crowd hanging out at the tables on the lanai. Plates of fish tacos prepared Baja-style, char-grilled or Aztec-spiced; the restaurant's claim of "the best damn enchiladas you've ever eaten, period!" and kitchen-sink burritos play up this Mex-gone-local joint that manages to appeal equally to college kids on Margarita Madness Mondays and Taco Tuesdays, as well as families whose kids (12 and younger) eat free on Sundays.
