2005 'ILIMA AWARD WINNER - CRITIC'S CHOICE: WANDA ADAMS (FOR CONSISTENT EXCELLENCE)

In the 10th anniversary year of the 'Ilima Awards, these are the restaurants that turned the heads of our readers and our in-house food experts.

CRITIC'S CHOICE: WANDA ADAMS (FOR CONSISTENT EXCELLENCE)
Pah Ke's Chinese Restaurant

Restaurateur Raymond Siu and family took a rather rundown and grungy Kane'ohe eatery, wooed people back with refreshed decor and reliably good local-style Chinese food (the kau yuk with steamed bun is so tender you don't need to chew!). Then they started layering in Siu's own culinary ideas, including lighter dishes, seasonal soups, salads made from locally grown ingredients, exceptional desserts. While he's launching another enterprise, his cook brother and hostess wife continue to assure good food and a warm welcome. If you reserve ahead and gather a few friends, they'll do a special menu.

46-018 Kamehameha Highway, Kane'ohe. 235-4505. 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. Reservations recommended. VS, MC, AX. Checks accepted. $$.
