  FINE DINING

It's difficult, sometimes, to differentiate fine dining from casual in Hawai'i — restaurants here are rarely formal and less than a handful have a dress code. When we think of fine dining, however, we think of careful attention to detail, in food, in service, in surroundings.

BluWater Grill

One of the few O'ahu restaurants that features dining on the water's edge, BluWater overlooks Kuapa Pond and gives Hawai'i Kai residents a soothing and relaxing reason to forget about traffic. An extensive menu of beers and cocktails matches food presentations that hopscotch around the world but are rooted in local tastes. Bill Bruhl, former executive chef at Ryan's, is big on kiawe grilling and heavy, sweet-spicy flavors, such as mango-guava glazed spareribs served with Jamaican rice and peas.
