  FINE DINING

It's difficult, sometimes, to differentiate fine dining from casual in Hawai'i — restaurants here are rarely formal and less than a handful have a dress code. When we think of fine dining, however, we think of careful attention to detail, in food, in service, in surroundings.

Chai's Island Bistro

Even if the food wasn't interesting and reliably savory, Chai Chaowasaree would deserve our support for keeping live contemporary Island music a part of the dinner scene with brief, early evening performances from major artists most nights of the week. Chai is a host who exudes Thai-style aloha; portion sizes are larger than in most high-end places, and there are orchids everywhere.
