  FINE DINING

It's difficult, sometimes, to differentiate fine dining from casual in Hawai'i — restaurants here are rarely formal and less than a handful have a dress code. When we think of fine dining, however, we think of careful attention to detail, in food, in service, in surroundings.




Donato's Restaurant

Donato's offers traditional Italian fare in a charming trattoria setting that belies its second-floor shopping center location. A reasonably priced midweek small-plates menu, a solid wine list and classic pasta and pizza dishes make this a Manoa favorite — sit at the bar and you'll meet the neighbors. Specialties include spezzatino di carni miste (a rich stew of beef, veal, sausage and lamb, served in a clay crock with borlotti beans, in a roasted garlic and truffle sauce) and other dishes inspired by chef Donato Loperfido's youth in Italy.
