  FINE DINING

It's difficult, sometimes, to differentiate fine dining from casual in Hawai'i — restaurants here are rarely formal and less than a handful have a dress code. When we think of fine dining, however, we think of careful attention to detail, in food, in service, in surroundings.

Mariposa, Neiman Marcus, Ala Moana Center

Where better to combine the pleasures of shopping and dining than at Mariposa, with its regal view of Ala Moana Park and breezy, contemporary-elegant dining room? Outside tables on the lengthy lanai are perfect for warm popovers served with sweet poha berry-butter, executive chef Douglas Lum's simple but sophisticated California cuisine with Hawai'i Regional accents and pastry chef Karen Schooley's impressive desserts. Well-selected wine list, too.
