  FINE DINING

It's difficult, sometimes, to differentiate fine dining from casual in Hawai'i — restaurants here are rarely formal and less than a handful have a dress code. When we think of fine dining, however, we think of careful attention to detail, in food, in service, in surroundings.

Michel's at the Colony Surf

Eberhard "Hardy" Kintscher, longtime executive chef, prepares sauteed abalone, spaghetti squash, tomato and crisp snow peas in abalone sauce at Michel's at the Colony Surf, a restaurant that offers arguably the best sunset view in Waikiki.

Old World elegance, windows that offer the best sunset view in Waikiki and outstanding professional service makes Michel's a favorite of romantics — many a proposal has taken place here. Chef Eberhard Kintscher's preparations of continental classics such as escargot, lobster bisque and Steak Diane, plus the Sunday brunch menu with its signature Eggs Benedict a la Michel's, have built a loyal core of regulars. Michel's has been recognized with a Dirona Award and among "the most romantic restaurants in the world" on TV's "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous."
