  FINE DINING

It's difficult, sometimes, to differentiate fine dining from casual in Hawai'i — restaurants here are rarely formal and less than a handful have a dress code. When we think of fine dining, however, we think of careful attention to detail, in food, in service, in surroundings.

21 Degrees North

If you're out North Shore way, there's literally only one fine-dining choice and that's this multi-level, many-windowed restaurant in the hotel that starred in TV's "North Shore." With gorgeous ocean views (try to be seated at sunset) and a contemporary Amerasian surf-and-turf menu overseen by chef John Armstrong, specialties include pan-seared 'opakapaka and rosemary-crusted Colorado lamb rack.
