  CASUAL DINING

When we're not in a dress-up mood, when it's lunch with a friend or dinner with a crowd, when we want to eat well without breaking the bank, these are the restaurants we choose.

Hula Grill Waikiki, Outrigger Waikiki On The Beach

At Hula Grill, on the second floor of the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach, chef Mark Kowalkowski has designed a resort-casual menu that fits the Islands and the setting, with its view of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach.
Jeff Widener | The Honolulu Advertiser

This sliver of a second-floor restaurant done in the style of an old-time plantation manager's house offers Diamond Head views, open-air dining and a more serene and sophisticated atmosphere than its older brother, Duke's downstairs. Chef Mark Kowalkowski's focus is on fresh fish with light reduction; scallop and lobster pot stickers are killer. The roomy bar is a good place for drinks, pupu and live (but not too loud) contemporary Hawaiian music, as well.
