  CASUAL DINING

When we're not in a dress-up mood, when it's lunch with a friend or dinner with a crowd, when we want to eat well without breaking the bank, these are the restaurants we choose.

Tiki's Grill & Bar, ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel

Unrelenting kitsch (check out the volcano!) and reliably good Hawai'i Regional Cuisine are the draws at Tiki's Grill & Bar at the Aston Waikiki hotel.

This modernized tiki bar — Trader Vic's for the new century — is so well done that it appeals to all ages of both tourists and locals. The large, open-air dining room and bar features live music; South Pacific bric-a-brac of tiki heads, fishing nets and glass fishing float lights that work splendidly in this setting; and — surprise — good food. Tiki's kitchen pumps out palatable plates of American-Hawai'i Regional fare and tasty fish dishes such as its signature salmon glazed with spiced cane sugar and a lemongrass beurre blanc sauce. Desserts like the chocolate lava flow are no wipeout, either.
