2005 'ILIMA AWARD WINNER - BEST FINE-DINING RESTAURANT

In the 10th anniversary year of the 'Ilima Awards, these are the restaurants that turned the heads of our readers and our in-house food experts.

BEST FINE-DINING RESTAURANT
John Dominis

John Dominis, an Island institution for special-occasion dinners and brunches, offers views of Waikiki and Diamond Head, a network of koi ponds and the seafood specialties of chef Jean- Pierre Maharibatcha.
Gregory Yamamoto | The Honolulu Advertiser

A repeat 'Ilima Awards winner, for many locals, this waterfront restaurant is the height of sophistication; if you're going to John Dominis, it's REALLY a celebration — Mother's Day brunch, or an engagement with the ring hidden in the souffle. Seafood dominates: tiger prawns four ways, catch of the day five ways, sushi and sashimi, local moi. A budget-conscious tip: Try the expansive lounge menu of cold and hot appetizers.

43 'Ahui St. 523-0955. Dinner: 6-9 p.m. daily. Sunday brunch: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Reservations recommended. Valet parking. VS, MC, AX, DC, DS, JCB. No checks. $$$.
