Zippy's

You couldn't do a Hawai'i restaurant guide without Zippy's in it, not if you wanted to accurately represent the way we really eat. Zippy's outlets — family restaurants that encompass takeout windows, bakeries, bars and full dining rooms in various configurations — are so much a part of the landscape here that Zippy's chili tickets are a popular fundraising feature, and the chain does a booming online business in packaged foods for homesick Islanders elsewhere. Although the chain pioneered efforts to create more healthful local-style fast foods, chili with hot dogs and rice, hamburger curry, won ton saimin and deep-fried cutlets with gravy remain favorites.
