  BAKERIES

Take a look around any interisland airport terminal, and you'll see folks toting grease-stained bakery boxes tied with string or suspended in plastic bags. We just love our baked goods, and we love to give them as gifts. Here are some of our favorite O'ahu bakeries, with their specialties.

Liliha Bakery and Coffee Shop

Take a number, smile at the lady, point to the coco puffs and the cinnamon twists and the chantilly cake, pick up your box and walk out smiling. It's a formula that's worked for 56 years at Liliha Bakery, founded by Koo Takakuwa and now run by the second generation. The line forms before daybreak six days a week, both for the service bakery and the 18-seat counter where you can eye the awesome butter mountain while you wait for your hotcakes or hamburger steak. Lively and nostalgic.
