2006 'ILIMA AWARD WINNER - BEST MAUI RESTAURANT: PEOPLE'S CHOICE

Every year, Advertiser readers are asked to vote for their favorite restaurants in the 'Ilima Awards poll. Meanwhile, our in-house food experts debate to select the critics' choice 'Ilimas, primarily focused on restaurants recently reviewed or revisited. With a few exceptions, categories change each year to keep readers interested and keep the winner list fresh.

BEST MAUI RESTAURANT: PEOPLE'S CHOICE
Longhi's, Lahaina

Bob Longhi introduced contemporary cuisine to Lahaina; now his children work with him in a family of restaurants that includes the original Front Street location and outlets in Wailea and on O'ahu at Ala Moana Center. The original location, with its spoken menus and great people-watching out the window, remains our favorite. The menu is as much California as Italy, including fresh pasta in light sauces, goat cheese ravioli, grilled local seafood, salads and steaks.
