  CASUAL DINING

When we don't want to dress up, when the budget is a bit busted, when we're hanging out with the gang, these are the restaurants we choose. There's considerable variation among them in price, food style and atmosphere, but all cultivate a relaxed feeling and, in most cases, there's no need for reservations or anything fancier than T-shirt and slippers.

Duke's Canoe Club, Outrigger Waikiki Hotel

Duke's, just steps from Waikiki Beach, is perennially crowded and noisy, but always fun, with some of the best people-watching potential of any restaurant in town. Adorned with memorabilia relating to the late swimming and surfing great Duke Kahanamoku, this restaurant offers a terrific bargain breakfast buffet every day. Lunches are of the sandwich and burger sort, and, at night, it's surf, turf and cocktail time. Be warned: Live music in the bar can take the decibel level over the top.
