  CASUAL DINING

When we don't want to dress up, when the budget is a bit busted, when we're hanging out with the gang, these are the restaurants we choose. There's considerable variation among them in price, food style and atmosphere, but all cultivate a relaxed feeling and, in most cases, there's no need for reservations or anything fancier than T-shirt and slippers.

Haleiwa Joe's Seafood Grill

It's fun to play tourist from time to time and run out to the North Shore and order one of those touristy drinks at Haleiwa Joe's, where you get the plastic glass with the beach diorama in the bottom. It's also fun to sit on the covered lanai and watch the boats putter in and out of Hale'iwa harbor while you enjoy coconut shrimp, prime rib, fresh local fish or Paradise Pie. There's a Kane'ohe location, but it has a very different character.
