  CASUAL DINING

When we don't want to dress up, when the budget is a bit busted, when we're hanging out with the gang, these are the restaurants we choose. There's considerable variation among them in price, food style and atmosphere, but all cultivate a relaxed feeling and, in most cases, there's no need for reservations or anything fancier than T-shirt and slippers.

Side Street Inn

Colin Nishida's unassuming smoky bar, where the regulars knock back icy beers while watching sports on TV, has quite simply some of the best and most fun down-home food in the Islands. Most dishes are served family style, and the platters come heaped. The fried rice and pork chops are a must, but you can't complain about the katsu, the spinach salad or the Portuguese-style clams. Great for kicking back (except for the people lined up and eyeing your table).
