2007 'ILIMA AWARD WINNER - BEST KAUA'I RESTAURANT PEOPLE'S CHOICE
Hamura Saimin Stand
Stop time with a visit to Hamura Saimin Stand. Opened in 1952, the restaurant's two U-shaped Formica counters are still intact. That's where regulars sit, eating the classic saimin dense noodles in a full-bodied broth sprinkled with green onions created by the late Aiko Hamura. On the wall is a short menu and members of the Hamura/Hiraoka clan preside over steaming pots. You'll also find won ton mein, BBQ stick, and the tall, house-made lilikoi chiffon pies.
2956 Kress St., Lihue. 808-245-3271. 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays; 10 a.m.-midnight Fridays-Saturdays; 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Sundays. No reservations. No credit cards. No checks. $.
