It's a formula that's worked for 57 years at Liliha Bakery, founded by Koo Takakuwa and now run by the second generation. The line forms before daybreak six days a week, for the service bakery and the trapped-in-amber 18-seat counter, where you can eye the butter mountain while you wait for your hotcakes or hamburger steak.
