AMERICAN/AMERICAN REGIONAL

Round the clock: MAC 24/7 at the Waikiki Prince Kuhio Hotel never stops serving its reworked diner faves such as, clockwise from center, banana, walnut and chocolate-chunk pancakes; a lava flow; meat loaf with mashed potatoes; coconut, maple and guava syrups; haupia cupcake; and a cherry-lime rickey.

MAC 24/7
Wailana Coffee Shop is no longer the default wee-hours stop in Waikiki. At MAC 24/7, in the remodeled Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio Hotel, an order of pancakes can feed a family of four (it has really happened). The Frisbee-size discs are as thick as the Sunday paper, and you get three of them. They come topped with things like a pile of fresh blueberries. We're partial to the Elvis peanut butter and bacon. There's a whole lineup of diner faves tweaked modern, like stellar meat loaf in a demiglace, mac-and-cheese and fried chicken and waffles. The price range is wide, from $13 for a Reuben to $25 for a lobster pot pie. Perhaps best of all, the restaurant is the creation of hotel restaurant gurus CB5. The retro-sleek, Jetsons-meets-diner space is a stylish place to end a nightcrawl.
