The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
Before the Frappuccino, there was the Ice-Blended. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf became famous in pockets of the Mainland for its frothy, sugary Ice-Blended coffee drinks. Foodland moguls the Sullivans opened the first Coffee Bean here in 2005, and now there are 13 on Oahu, one on Kauai and one on the Big Island. Islanders now can sample the tea and coffee lattes: The chocolatey joys of the Moroccan Mint will make a tea lover out of anyone. Variety makes Coffee Bean a standout there's a different light roast, dark roast, flavored and decaf coffee on the menu daily. And if you love the twin jolts of sugar and caffeine, the vanilla latte doesn't disappoint. Combine all this with salads, sandwiches and excellent pastries (the buttery cranberry-orange scone and apricot-almond oatcake are tops), and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf delivers every time. Now if only one would open Downtown.
Various locations. Hours vary, but most open 6 a.m.-10 p.m. daily. No reservations. AX, MC, VS. $.
