CHEAP EATS
Boots & Kimo's Homestyle Kitchen
Barbecue for breakfast? Just ask the many regulars who crowd this family-oriented breakfast-and-lunch-only restaurant for the pulehu (grilled) short ribs as well as heaping plates of American standards such as pancakes (with the restaurant's signature macadamia-nut syrup). Owned and operated by brothers Rick and Jesse Kiakona, the 13-year-old spot is named after their father and uncle. On weekends, expect to cool your heels on the sidewalk with locals and Japanese tourists. The Kiakonas plan to move to a bigger space down the street in 2008.
131 Hekili St., Kailua. 263-7929. 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays-Fridays; 6:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturdays-Sundays. Cash only. $.
