Aaron's Atop the Ala Moana
Aaron's 36th-floor cityscape view is a feast for the eyes. As at most restaurants where eye candy is the main course, the food continental cuisine with local accents almost comes second. It's pretty standard fancy-hotel restaurant fare seared Cajun-spiced ahi, shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad, opakapaka in a lemon-butter-caper sauce, blackened double pork chop with pineapple marmalade. And what would a room with a view be without desserts on fire strawberries Panzini flambe is a signature and a big wine cellar with the requisite Opus One (1985, $350) and Chateau Margaux (1953, $750)? Go early if you don't want to compete with music from the bar. Part of the Tri-Star Restaurant Group that includes Sarento's Top of the I, Aaron's has added its Taste lounge the makai VIP area is the sweet spot: It has sweeping Waikiki, Honolulu, Ala Moana Beach Park and ocean views, and funky Euro leather and suede furnishings.
