AMERICAN
Haleiwa Joe's Seafood Grill
Whether you're a vacationer,
a surfer or snorkeler, or a resident
escorting visitors
around the island, Haleiwa Joe's
Seafood Grill, overlooking the smallboat
harbor on the historic site of
what was once the gracious Hale'iwa
Hotel, is a nice break on the long
drive to and from the North Shore.
The food is of the casual, familyfriendly
sort — sandwiches, burgers,
fried and grilled fish plates with East
West touches (poke, tempura crab
roll, Thai calamari), and some of the
cocktails come in kitschy souvenir
glasses. There's a Kane'ohe location,
too — set above lush Ha'iku Gardens
— but we've always enjoyed the
Hale'iwa spot and its beachy character.
