CHEAP EATS
Hank's Haute Dogs
Opened in 2007, the back story to
this stylish little storefront is practically
legend already. Henry Adaniya,
who opened and closed Chicago's
lauded Trio restaurant, moved to
Hawai'i to return to his culinary roots
— his parents ran a hot dog stand in
Waikiki in the 1940s. Adaniya combines
the high- and lowbrow in
Hank's, serving gourmet franks — the
Chicago-style Vienna beef dog with
the works, spicy andouille sausage
topped with sauteed onions, and daily specials that include buffalo,
wagyu beef and duck with foie
gras(!). The instahit, which expanded
this year to include a Waikiki location,
also has the best frites in town
— twice fried, Belgian-style.
