CHEAP EATS
Poke Stop
Elmer and Samantha Guzman abandoned the fine-dining scene (both worked with Sam Choy) to create this seafood-focused takeout shop. Along with amazing poke (Maui onion ahi, Kim Chee Kona crab, “kapakahi ahi and opihi”), there are plate lunches and bentos that should be on a white dinner plate: blackened herb-rubbed fish in soy-lime sauce, “deconstructed sushi bowl of blackened fish, creamy ahi, sesame tako, tobiko, pickled ginger and shrimp over rice). The influence of the time Guzman spent working for Emeril Lagasse is seen in oyster po'boy and soft-shell crab sandwiches as well as exceptional crab cakes. The place also makes sashimi and sushi platters.
