2008 'ILIMA AWARD WINNER - CRITICS' PICKS
Cake Works
Pastry chef Abi Langlas, Hilo-born, London-trained, took over the former Mary Catherine's Bakery in 2008 and, under the name Cake Works, has elevated its already fine reputation to heights of excellence. The former pastry chef at stellar Ala Wong's restaurant, Langlas for some time created the sweets menu for Honolulu Coffee Co. while developing a reputation as Honolulu's premiere freelance designer of cakes and delicacies. Specializing in custom-made wedding and birthday cakes, Cake Works offers a range from traditional butter, carrot and red velvet cakes to flavors that appeal strongly to Islanders, including a full line of chiffon cakes, haupia cake, dobash, chantilly and lemon crunch.
