2008 'ILIMA AWARD WINNER - CRITICS' PICKS
Taormina Sicilian Cuisine
Taormina is an Italian restaurant
helmed by a Japanese Italophile,
chef Aki Yamamoto, who most
recently was at Spago Tokyo, and
spent two months eating his way
through Sicily. Taormina's menu
is the result. Not much was lost
in translation. It's a reasonable
cultural exchange — Japanese and
Italian cuisine both showcase the
essence of top-notch ingredients,
and tastes of both cultures are
showcased in dishes such as
the grilled tuna with herb oil —
prepared with herbs, olive oil and
capers, but also a touch of bonito.
Though it can be pricey, Taormina's
entrees are presented for sharing,
and it is a strong addition to the
city's Italian lineup.
