CHEAP EATS
Da Spot
This hole in the wall may have the best dinner-to-go on the island. Husband and-wife team Ahmad Ramadan and Ako Kifuji offer a quasi Middle Eastern/Mediterranean menu. The trademark Egyptian chicken is a spice fest of cardamom, cumin and other alluring flavors. Food doesn't get any better for $6.50. The baklava has a cult following, and the smoothie menu may be the island's most extensive. Fans can also find Da Spot food at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa's Sustainability Courtyard (they have a kiosk there), and the KCC, Kailua and Mililani farmers markets. Catering is available.
908 Pumehana St. 941-1313. 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays. Cash and checks only.
