2007 'ILIMA AWARD WINNER - CRITICS' PICKS
Mix Cafe
There's nothing we don't like about Mix Cafe — except that it's not closer to the Advertiser newsroom. Bruno Iezzi's Beretania Street cafe is the closest thing this city has to a true Euro cafe, where the menu is short but strong, the artisan coffee is brewed to perfection and the day's menu items are displayed behind a glass counter guard so you can see what you're dealing with. And what you're dealing with (besides large crowds) are sandwiches made with imported meats and cheeses (think speck and aged provolone), locally grown produce and housemade pasta sauces with added goodies like Iezzi's own spicy-sweet Italian sausage. The citrus-colored room is the brightest spot in Downtown — and it serves the best roast pork sandwich you've ever had the privilege of eating.
