Chin's Kahala
An outpost of a San Diego-area chainlet, Chin's Kahala is East O'ahu's answer to Little Village Noodle House — with white table cloths. The big restaurant occupying what used to be Tony Roma's has an extensive pan-regional menu that's well executed, from familiar standbys such as sweet and sour pork to fancier items like pan-fried shrimp laced with fried green tea served in a woven bamboo cone. Budget-minded diners beeline for the buffet. Weekday lunch it's $9.95 ($11.95 on weekends); dinner is just $14.95 Mondays to Thursdays and $17.95 Fridays to Sundays. There are booths for privacy, and a full bar.
4230 Wai'alae Ave. 737-7188. www.visitchins.com. 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., 5-9 p.m. daily. AX, MC, VS. $$.
