Although Honolulu is the most isolated city on Earth, our local designers have a surprising number of celebrity connections. In fact, those six degrees of separation seem to be shrinking rapidly as celebs discover our wealth of Island talent. Hinu jewelry, designed by Jennifer Thayer, has exploded on the celebrity scene. Demi Moore and Lindsay Lohan bought Hinu disc necklaces for themselves, while Jennifer Garner (1) and Tori Spelling bought them for their babies. Hinu has also been spotted in the Mother's Day issue of "InStyle" in 2005 and the most recent Sports Illustrated swimwear issue. Maui's own Maggie Coulombe has a Lahaina boutique that's become a celeb magnet. Jennifer Love Hewitt is a regular customer. Paris Hilton (2) has been photographed in a Coulombe lemon yellow kimono, and Nicole Richie, Terri Hatcher and Halle Berry bought some of the sexy garments. Sports Illustrated model Tori Praver is also a fan. Ian Ginoza (3) of Kicks Hawai'i and Big Island designer Sig Zane have created a Converse Chuck Taylor kick for Bono's PRODUCT(Red). Ginoza has also designed kicks for Kanye West (4). Eva Mendez spotted Muumuu Heaven designer Deborah Mascia (5) of Kailua in one of her reconstructed vintage skirts and had to have one, as well as a dress or two. Drew Barrymore saw one of her friends in Mascia's skirts and bought several. Catherine Zeta-Jones owns one of the boutique's deconstructed skirts, as do Chaka Khan and Amber Valetta. Will Smith's entourage, reports Mascia, "went wild for our vintage aloha shirt pillow cases." Gwen Stefani (6) has become a big fan of Hawaiian bracelets. She's bought several designed by Philip Rickard. Stefani's been photographed in numerous magazines, including People, wearing the Island-style jewelry. Britney Spears was on the cover of Us magazine, wearing a Hula-la bikini by Kailua designer Erika Ireland. Cameron Diaz loves surfing in Pualani bikinis by Honolulu designer Iwalani Isbell.
