Rainbows power past Louisiana Tech, 10-0

Jeffrey Van Doornum hit two solo home runs to back the strong pitching of Josh Slaats to lead Hawai'i over Louisiana Tech, 10-0, in a game called after seven innings because of the 10-run diferential mercy rule today at J.C. Love Field in Ruston, La.
Slaats (4-2) allowed no runs, five hits and two walks with four strikeouts for the Rainbows, who improved to 20-18 overall and 3-6 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Jamey Bradshaw (4-1) was tagged for nine runs, 11 hits and two walks in four innings for the Bulldogs (19-17, 4-5).
Hawai'i took a 1-0 lead in the first when Chase Koissian led off with a single and scored on Pi'ikea Kitamura's triple to right.
The Rainbows sent eight batters to the plate in a five-run third. Kitamura led off with a single, took second when Kolten Wong grounded out to first and scored on David Freitas' single to right. Van Doornum's double moved Freitas to third. Collin Bennett's single to short moved the runners, increasing UH's lead to 3-0. Bennett stole second before Garcia grounded out to second to advance the runners, making it 4-0. Kevin Macdonald homered to left to make it 6-0.
Hawai'i toiled with the long ball in the fourth. With two out, Wong singled and Freitas homered to right. Van Doornum followed with homer to right-center to make it 9-0.
Van Doornum led off the sixth with his second homer of the game, this one off reliever Cody Watts, to increase UH's lead to 10-0.
