A 30-year-old Kīhei man was killed Monday in a single-car accident on Honoapi'ilani Highway.
Police said Christian V. Jensen was driving his 1998 Jeep east on Honoapi'ilani heading in the Mā'alaea direction, when the vehicle went off the road, hit an embankment and guardrail and went off a cliff to the rocky shoreline below.
The crash happened about one-tenth of a mile east of mile marker 11 in Ukumehame area of Lahaina.
Jensen was thrown from the vehicle before it went off the cliff. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash happened between 1 and 7 a.m. Monday; the crash scene wasn't found until about 10 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
It was Maui County's seventh traffic fatality in 2010, the same amount as at this time last year.
