Warriors rise to No. 6 in volleyball

The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team moved up three spots into a tie for sixth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 15 poll.
Cal State Northridge (8-1) moved from No. 3 into the top spot, followed by last week's No. 1, Southern California (6-2), BYU (6-3), UCLA (4-5) and Stanford (3-3).
The Warriors (6-3) are tied with Long Beach State (4-4).
Hawai'i hosts UCLA Thursday and Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
WATER POLO
NO. 3 'BOWS SWEEP TO STAY UNBEATEN
Third-ranked University of Hawai'i routed No. 14 UC Davis, 17-4, and Cal State East Bay, 14-6, Sunday in women's water polo at the Northern California Invitational in Berkeley, Calif.
Senior Ryan Hanson-Swaner scored four goals, and junior Carmen Eggens added three in the win over UC Davis.
Transfer Jana Liessman scored four goals, and fellow sophomore Monika Eggens contributed three to help beat Cal State East Bay.
Serena Bredin amassed 12 saves in the two matches.
The Rainbow Wahine (4-0) open their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season tomorrow at No. 5 California.
TENNIS
NO. 42 'BOWS TOP NO. 37 SOUTH FLORIDA
The 42nd-ranked University of Hawai'i men's tennis team beat No. 37 South Florida, 4-0, Sunday at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Los Angeles.
Jeremy Tweedt teamed with Dennis Lajola, and Leo Rosenberg with Daniel Llarenas to win doubles matches and earn the first point of the day.
Andreas Weber jump-started UH in singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Peter Frank at No. 2 singles. Tweedt also beat Mark Oljaca, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 3 singles and Rosenberg beat Yannick Yoshizawa, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 4.
The Rainbow Warriors (4-1), who lost to No. 4 UCLA on the first day of the tournament, will next play at San Francisco tomorrow.
