A northwest swell is bringing warning-level surf to north- and west-facing shores across the state today.
The National Weather Service has issued a high-surf warning that will remain in effect until 6 p.m. tomorrow.
The waves are expected to diminish to advisory levels by Friday.
The weather service says waves on north- and west-facing shores of Niihau and Kauai will be 25 to 35 feet.
On Oahu and Molokai, surf will reach 20 to 30 feet along north shores and 15 to 20 feet along west shores.
Maui’s north shore will get 20- to 25-foot surf and west-facing shores on the Big Island will see 10- to 20-foot surf.
Also, a south swell will arrive this afternoon and peak late tonight or tomorrow morning. The surf from this swell has the potential to reach the 8-foot surf advisory threshold, the weather service says.
