Advertiser Staff

Two men who tried to intervene in an argument between a man and a woman in the Downtown area last night wound up in The Queen’s Medical Center where they were treated for deep cuts to their arms and elsewhere.

Police said the two men, ages 19 and 21, saw a man arguing with his girlfriend about 9:45 p.m. near the entrance to a parking lot at the corner of Maunakea and North Beretania streets and approached the couple to intervene.
As the two neared the couple, the man pulled a knife and began slashing at them, police said.
As the victims were trying to fend off the attack, officers on routine patrol in the area saw the commotion and were able to end the fray, police said.
The alleged attacker, 37, who has no local address, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault.
The two men who were injured in the incident were reported to be in good condition upon their arrival at Queen’s, police said.
