Kawananakoa Middle School students and faculty held signs outside the school this morning to remind drivers to slow down and watch for students.

The group was joined by parents and volunteers from Farmers Insurance Hawaii, which provided sign-making material.
A Kawananakoa student was struck by a car last month, prompting this morning’s event.
The Hot Spots Traffic Safety Program was created in 2002 in response to concern over speeding in neighborhoods and school areas.
Schools or concerned community members wishing to hold a Hot Spot event in their neighborhood can call the Farmers Insurance Community Relations Department at 543-0411.
