Islands warned of high surf for north, west shores

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf warning through 6 p.m. Thursday for north- and west-facing shores of the state.

A large northwest swell was expected to arrive last night. Combined with moderately high tides, the swell could cause substantial beach run-up by waves.

Surf along north- and west-facing shores of Kaua'i and Ni'ihau was forecast at 25 to 35 feet. For O'ahu and Moloka'i, surf was forecast at 20 to 30 feet.

North-facing shores of Maui could get 20- to 25-foot surf, while the Big Island's west-facing shores were forecast to get 10- to 20-foot surf.
