A first: All-Neighbor Island championship game in girls DI basketball

No. 1 seed Konawaena and No. 2 seed Lahainaluna dispatched Interscholastic League of Honolulu powers to set up an all-Neighbor Island state girls high school basketball championship in Division I.
In the opener at Blaisdell Arena, Konaweana, the defending state champion, walloped 'Iolani, 54-22.
In the second game, Maiki Viela hit her first 14 free throws and finished with 29 total points in lifting the Lady Lunas past Punahou, 64-56.
Viela ended the game hitting 16 of 18 free-throw attempts.
The Division I championship game will be played 7 p.m. Friday at Blaisdell Arena.
In the Division II tournament, No. 2 Kaimuki spoiled the Neighbor Island party, beating Kapa'a, 51-40, in one semifinal.
The Bulldogs will play defending champion and top-seeded Moloka'i, which defeated Kahuku, 79-69, in the other semifinal tonight.
Kaimuki will play Moloka'i at 5 p.m. Friday at Blaisdell Arena. Both championship games will be televised live on OC-16.
