PHILADELPHIA — Freshman Xavier Henry had 15 points and Marcus Morris had a big homecoming with 13 as No. 1 Kansas hammered No. 18 Temple, 84-52, yesterday.

"It was amazing especially since it's probably the last time I'll be able to play here in my college career," said Morris, grew up 1 1/2 miles from the Temple campus.

Sherron Collins scored 14 points for the Jayhawks (13-0), who have won nine games this season by at least 25 points.

Ryan Brooks and Juan Fernandez both had 11 points for the Owls (11-3), who already had a top-five win this season over then-No. 3 Villanova, 75-65, on Dec. 13. They never really had a chance against No. 1.

"We didn't play very well and we weren't the smartest team we've ever had together," Temple coach Fran Dunphy said, "but they made shots when they had to and they were relentless on the defensive end. They have talent and depth and that's a tough combination."

Dexter Pittman scored 18 points and the host Longhorns (13-0) forced 25 turnovers to hold off the Islanders (5-7), who had a 47-37 rebounding advantage.

DeMarcus Cousins had 18 points and 18 rebounds, and the host Wildcats (15-0) used a 14-3 second-half run to rally past the Cardinals (10-4).

Tina Charles scored 19 points and Kalana Greene added 16 to help the visiting Huskies (12-0) roll past the Pitates (8-6) for their 51st straight victory in the Big East opener for both teams. The victory was the 800th in school history, making UConn the ninth school to achieve that milestone.

Nnemkadi Ogwumike had 24 points and 16 rebounds as the host Cardinal (11-1) opened Pac-10 play with a rout of the Golden Bears (6-6).
