The woman who died Friday night from injuries sustained when she was struck by a van in Waikiki the day before has been identified as a Japanese tourist.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office identified the woman as Sachiko Kojima, 52, of Tokyo. An autopsy will be performed on Monday to determine the cause of death.
Kojima was in a marked crosswalk on Kai'olu Street when the van, traveling east on Kuhio Avenue, made a left turn and struck her.
Kojima suffered critical head injuries, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at the Queen's Medical Center on Friday.
Police said the death was the second traffic-related fatality of the year in Honolulu, compared to five last year at this time.
