After five seasons, Patrick Samsonas has resigned as football coach at Kaiser to spend more time with family and consider professional development.
Samsonas, 34, complied a 20-25-1 record, leading the Cougars to the playoffs the first two seasons.
"I wanted to step away, spend more time with the family," Samsonas said. "I'm looking to go back to school, too. I'm at a young enough age where I can take a couple years off and get back into the game."
With an 8-year-old daughter and a son who is almost 2 years old, it became a challenge to shuttle the children to the sitters and practices, he said. Samsonas' wife, Sonja, coaches volleyball at Saint Francis in Mānoa.
Samsonas said he would like to eventually return to coaching.
Meanwhile, Kaiser announced that it is seeking Samsonas' replacement. Applications are being accepted from Jan. 25 to Feb. 8. Applications and resumes should be sent to Kaiser High, 511 Lunalilo Home Road, Honolulu 96825. Attention should be made to athletic director Rodney Iwasaki.
