The last wave of back-to-school commuters hits O'ahu's roads this morning when more than 40,000 college students begin fall semester classes.
In addition, many private schools as well as public schools on the traditional academic calendar begin the school year this week.
Although about 120,000 public school students on year-round schedules already have returned to school, an estimated 60,000 others go back to school tomorrow, the state Department of Education said.
"We want to remind motorists to expect additional traffic on our roadways," said state Transportation Director Rod Haraga.
He encouraged people to consider alternatives such as carpooling or riding TheBus.
