It may seem like it was just yesterday that you unpacked your holiday decorations, but now it's time to store them again. "Real Simple" magazine offers tips to make it easier:

  • Shred used gift wrap and tissue paper, and use it as packing filler when you're putting away your decorations.

  • To protect delicate ornaments, store them in their original packaging. Or keep small items in partitioned cardboard liquor boxes and tiny ones in egg cartons.

  • Evaluate your decorations annually; get rid of anything you didn't use or is damaged.

    KA IWI COAST CLEANUP

Why not start off the new year doing a good deed for the 'aina?

The Sierra Club is seeking volunteers to help with a cleanup of the Ka Iwi coastline and a 2-mile stretch of Kalaniana'ole Highway, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. New Year's Day.

Meet at Sandy Beach Park's east restroom (the Makapu'u end). Bring water, hat and sunscreen; T-shirts, gloves and bags will be provided. For details, call 722-8727 or 942-0145.

    FINAL WORD

"Writing a thank-you note is a small but gracious way to repay kindness with kindness. By expressing gratitude in writing, you make sure others feel appreciated."
